Stellat’en First Nation acquires land, plans hotel and largest commercial investment in Fraser Lake in decades.

The Stellat’en First Nation, in partnership with the Village of Fraser Lake, is acquiring 5.6 acres of land from the Village for the largest commercial development in Fraser Lake in decades, beginning with a hotel.

“Stellat’en and Fraser Lake have been discussing these lands since they were first opened up for development 15 years ago,” said Robert Michell, Chief of the Stellat’en First Nation. “Along with all the other projects Stellat’en is developing, this will be an important asset for both our members and people living in and visiting Fraser Lake. With Stellat’en slated to be the largest corporate partner in the region, we’re excited to be working together and building out the region in a way that benefits us all.”

A feasibility study is underway to determine the exact nature and components of the development, but Stellat’en is planning on staying true to the zoning and Fraser Lake’s Official Community Plan, and creating a commercial venue that provides services to everyone living in and visiting the area.

“Fraser Lake hasn’t seen a major commercial investment in a very long time, and with our economy shifting away from major industry, attracting new jobs and services to our community is so important,” said Sarrah Storey, Mayor of the Village of Fraser Lake. “Stellat’en committing to a major investment in Fraser Lake, on top of all their work at Stellaquo and beyond, is a great demonstration of their commitment to our region and I’m so grateful that we’re able to work together on some of these initiatives.”

The development will be phased, with the first phase planned for construction in 2026 including a new hotel. The final size of the hotel and included amenities will be determined through the feasibility study currently underway.

The Stellat’en First Nation is bringing a long-term, sustainable vision for the area economy to life. Other major projects include:

  • Drone Transport Initiative – Phase II – A partnership with the Village of Fraser Lake, University of British Columbia and provincial healthcare partners to deliver pharmaceutical and lab products to and from rural and remote communities.
  • Ni Ti Mountain Wind – A 35 turbine clean energy wind project just south of Stellaquo and Fraser Lake, starting construction in 2026 and beginning operations in 2029.
  • Slenyah Redevelopment – A redevelopment of the current commercial space at Stellaquo including a new gas station, market, and office space.
  • Stellat’en First Nation Administration Building – A new building to house administrative and government operations for Stellat’en for decades to come.
